Phototrek 2009 ‘Discover the Scenic Rim’
It was a very challenging weekend for all the entrants in our Phototrek competition. Fifty nine enthusiastic photographers registered on Friday or Saturday and headed out into the Scenic Rim to discover the prize winning images. Quite a number of the photographers had entered previous Phototreks and were keen to do it all again. It was also encouraging to see people new to the concept of Phototrek as it really is a unique competition. Many ‘discovered’ that not being able to delete, delete, delete with their digital cameras was the greatest challenge and this reminded us of how particular we were when we used film as each click of the shutter cost us money. Having a specific time frame in which to take the photographs also added to the challenge with quite a few people not finding twenty five shots. Photographers were seen driving many kilometres to many areas of the Scenic Rim, from before sunrise until after sunset, so we look forward to seeing the resulting images. The Surprise category of ‘Our Cultural Diversity’ had entrants scratching their heads to think of a suitable subject so those images should be a little different. Everyone made it back in time to download their images then there was lots of comparing notes over a delicious barbecue for those who stayed. Chefs Peter and Mark did a great job cooking the steaks and sausages. Thanks heaps.
It was very encouraging to see seventeen club members come along and enter Phototrek so a big thank you to those people for supporting our club’s fundraising venture. Thank you very much to Colleen who did the lion’s share of work leading up to the competition and thank you to Rosemary, Ian and Maria who helped organise and prepare the barbecue. Ian and Rosemary were also a big help at registration, much appreciated. Again we are grateful to Peter for the use of his home and studio and for all his support and help to make Phototrek successful.
